Fancy a stripe?
While thinking about my next sweater project last autumn, all I could come up with was the rough idea of something with stripes. So I set out to find some inclusive and modern striped designs. Please indulge me in a sweater round-up - even if spring is just around the corner in the Northern hemisphere.
Spruced by Tif Handknits
Anyone else a sucker for a boatneck and dropped sleeves? Combine that with cute stripes and some beginner-friendly colourwork at the end of the sleeves - what’s not to love? When I came across this pattern by Tif Neilan, I fell head over heels and have been coming up with colour combinations ever since. It comes with a great size range (finished bust circumference 75.5-160 cm / 30.25-64”) and offers cropped and standard body lengths as well as two sleeve length options.
Kumo sweater by Julia Wilkens
With lots of positive ease and the right yarn choices, Kumo will feel like you are wearing a cloud. And who doesn’t want to wear a neon-coloured cloud? Julia’s sample definitely made me fall in love with neon colours for the first time in my life. It just pops against the Dutch skies, where she lives with her husband and son. Similar enough to the sky in Copenhagen, I have to say! And if you prefer your stripes smaller, check out her Francis pattern, too.
Kinsan by Kiyomi + Sachiko
Highly customiseable and gender-neutral, Kinsan is a top-down raglan sweater. You can choose between three body and two sleeve lengths as well as two neck variations. Also the stripe sequence can be individually decided, so you can play with all your favourite colours or keep it monochrome. All the options with this one!
Dayspring Dolman by Mama’s Teddy Bear
Who says stripes in sweaters need to be horizontal? Ainur of Mama’s Teddy Bear designed this gorgeous sweater, which works both colour-blocked or in a single colour thanks to the small stripes running between each section. The pattern comes in 9 sizes (finished chest circumference: 139-218.5cm / 54¾-86“) and has been optimised for low vision accessibility.
Structure Loop Sweater by OtherLoops
A different take on a striped sweater, but I am smitten with the combination of colour and texture for the stripes. I wonder if my recent move to Copenhagen has anything to do with my new found love of understated coolness. The pattern also features some lovely details like the folded neckline and a ribbing detail from the shoulder down the sides.
