Hipster vibes

When I was in a cafe and coffee roaster’s place in Nuremberg at the end of last year, I noticed a particular kind of hat all employees there were wearing. The tight-fitting hats with fold-up brims seemed almost to be part of the uniform.

Since I found the cafe by googling ‚hipster cafe Nuremberg’, in my mind these hats were called hipster hats. I thought there must be knitting patterns for these and only a quick Ravelry search revealed 113 patterns under ‚hipster hat‘.

Here I have compiled a selection to inspire you to try the look yourself.

Musselburgh by Ysolda

One pattern but so many options. The Musselburgh hat looks very cosy with the folded-up brim or without it and thus a more slouchy look. The pattern includes six sizes as well as six gauges for various types of wool! It comes in three different PDF patterns (A4 with three columns, optimised for mobile devices, and A4 for low vision), which makes this one definitely my favourite!

Disclaimer: I made the Musselburgh myself and I have to say I love both the pattern and the hat.

ALEX by Frau Riedel strickt

It’s ALEX’s somewhat different ribbing that just does it for me, I have to say. The pattern is available in both English and German, comes in one size and is knit with needle 5 and 4.5mm.

Hipster hat by Petite Knit

Can a hipster hat be classic already or are they still ‚too cool‘? Petite Knit’s version seems like a more classic one to me with its wide brim and ribbing throughout. This pattern includes 4 sizes (baby, child, woman, man) and it’s recommended for 3.5mm needles.

Jude Beanie by Staystitch Pattern Co.

For everyone, who sews and/or wants the hat to be done quicker, I am throwing in this sewing pattern by Staystitch Pattern Co. Whether it’s the toddler size or an adult (XL), it’s made within no time and ideal to sew up those fabric scraps.

Happy making!
