Beginner-friendly knitting patterns
A dish cloth - often slated as the ideal first knitting project - seldom enticed anybody. I would argue to always start with something that you think is fun and exciting.
So, here is a small selection of beginner-friendly projects - with a twist!
Featherdown Wrap by Purl Soho
Make a rectangular scarf - but make it fun. The colourblocking options are endless with Purl Soho’s Featherdown Wrap and the super bulky yarn means quick progress. The pattern is free and comes one size. Choose your favorite colours and just get going!
Simple Yet Effective Cowl by TinCan Knits
This cowl would be a beautiful introduction to knitting in the round as well as to knit and purl stitches in an easy and repetitive pattern. It is free, drafted for only one skein of DK weight yarn and comes in a long and short version. Up to you now how you want it to look!
Feeling Good legwarmers by nathalie denys
If we are talking about the benefits of repetition, what is better than making two of the same pieces? Legwarmers - essentially just long tubes - are as stylish as they are beginner-friendly. This version by nathalie denys features a ribbing pattern and is knit in the round. The free pattern includes one size, but of course you can easily adapt how long or short you would like to make them, and is available in both English and French.
Safe and warm baby sleep bag by Mairlynd
I wanted to include a baby knit in this round-up because they are small and thus finish really quickly (plus babies don’t care about ‘imperfect’ knits!). Mairlynd’s baby sleep bag is a fun project and makes for a lovely gift. The stripes allow you to play with colours a little bit and keep the knitting process interesting. The pattern is drafted for sport weight yarns, comes in one size and is available in German, English and Spanish.
